The Department is named Department of Alternative and Complementary Medicine. The Alternative Medicine (acupuncture, herbal therapy, homeopathy) is lectured to students of Faculties Medicine I and Medicine II (year V, sem. IX), to postgraduates (residents and clinical interns) and to doctors who attend Continuing Training courses.

The theses have been defended in the specialty “Traditional Medicine” (14.00.46), now “Alternative Medicine” (321.12.).
- Year 2000
The department was renamed in the Department of Traditional Medicine and was integrated in the Faculty of Residency.
- Year 1996
By the order of the Rector “On the reorganization of departments of Reflexotherapy and Medical Rehabilitation, Human Physiology, Faculty of General Medicine and Physiotherapy Course”, was founded the Department of Acupuncture and Medical Rehabilitation as a part of the Faculty of Continuing Training of Doctors. During that period there were held courses such as Acupuncture, Herbal Therapy, Physiotherapy, Kinetotherapy, Manual Therapy.
- Year 1994
The Department was integrated in the Faculty of General Medicine, in order to train both doctors and students in alternative medicine.
Since 1994 the Department together with the Association of Traditional Medicine of the Republic of Moldova organizes national and international congresses in alternative medicine, with annual publication of scientific and practical journal “Alternative Medicine: clinical physiology and methods of treatment”, accredited by the National Council of Accreditation and Attestation (B category).
- Year 1992
According to the decision of the Supreme Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova, the department started to train the scientific staff: doctoral course in “Balneology, Physiotherapy and Acupuncture” (14.00.34).
- Year 1991
The Department of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, initially called Reflexotherapy and Medical Rehabilitation, was founded in 1991 (by NLS Order nr. 654 of 30.09.91) as a part of the Faculty of Continuing Training of Doctors.
Since the foundation, Victor Lacusta, academician, PhD, professor, Honorary Citizen of the Republic of Moldova has been the head of the department.
